I think sometimes, we forget where we came from. Like a tree, we need to stay connected to our roots in order to maintain healthy growth. Medicine as we know it today isn’t what it used to be and I don’t think that’s news to anyone! Western medicine has a very overpowering presence in our world and although it certainly is necessary and has its time and place, I would argue that it shouldn’t be the first place we turn to when we are sick. Herbal medicine has been around for thousands of years and although it isn’t as commonly practiced in modern times, it is, in simplest terms, the ancient roots from which modern medicine was derived. There is no denying the medicinal benefits of plants, herbs and spices as 40% of modern day prescriptions (some of which may be sitting in your medicine cabinet at home) are formulated to mimic their healing properties! If we develop an understanding of where modern day medicine came from, we are better equipped to strengthen those roots. The benefits of natural remedies can be rediscovered and resurfaced if together, we simply embrace the importance of educating ourselves about them. If you find yourself along the same path, seeking wisdom to make the right decisions and becoming an advocate for your own health, you are not alone! Your journey begins now.
